Burmese Cabbage Salad

This warm, Burmese-inspired recipe is not your basic cabbage salad. With its blend of sweet, spicy, and tangy flavors, combined with its crunchy texture, it really is one of my favorite dishes. Unlike many salads, this Burmese cabbage salad is a complete meal on its own. I once made this at Thanksgiving for my mother, who generally doesn’t like salads, but surprisingly she quite loved it. Now, whenever we visit one another, she always requests that I make this salad.

The origin of this recipe stems from a dinner invitation, where a friend made a cabbage salad. Although I’ve never been a fan of cabbage, her dish inspired me. Later, I created my own version by combining different ingredients and whipping it into a salad. This recipe is inspired by Burmese cuisine, which is unique and delicious.

To prepare this salad, we are simply going to toast seeds and nuts, then chop all the ingredients and combine them. Next, we will prepare our dressing by sautéing olive oil, garlic, pepper and turmeric. Finally, we’ll add our dressing into the salad and toss everything together.
